In college, majored in biology and geography. Combining this formal education and years of designing trips for family and friends, I applied my first job in the travel industry and was accepted to the staff as a destination manager for an expedition cruising company. My destination? The Galapagos islands and mainland Ecuador. My responsibilities included managing client profiles and final documents for each departure, quarterly visits for ship and hotel inspections, monitoring trends in the travel industry, and attending international Galapagos tour operator meetings on behalf of the company. I returned in the fall of 2022 and happily discovered positive updates. Conservation efforts and efficiency have increased, options are available for those who prefer to stay on land instead of aboard a ship, and breeding programs for the land tortoises proves successful.
